Sculpted Roses & Murrini Exploration with Tatyana Boyarinova
Sculpted Roses & Murrini Exploration with Tatyana Boyarinova
October 2–4, 2026 | 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM daily
Artist Reception: Saturday, October 3 | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Step into a three-day deep dive where glass begins to bloom.
In this immersive workshop, visiting artist Tatyana Boyarinova will guide students through a layered exploration of sculptural florals and murrini design, moving from soft, dimensional forms into detailed pattern work that lives inside the glass itself.
This class is designed to build momentum across all three days, with each technique naturally feeding into the next.
Day 1: Sculpted Roses
We begin with the rose in its most expressive form. Students will learn techniques for creating petals with varying thickness, giving each piece movement and realism. We’ll explore color, both single-tone and two-tone applications, and discuss glass selection for achieving the best results. These sculpted elements can stand alone or be translated into wearable pieces such as earrings, pendants, or necklaces.
Day 2: Rose Murrini
Taking inspiration from Day 1, we shift from sculptural form into murrini construction. Students will learn how to build rose imagery within a cane, with the ability to “open” the design and explore endless color variations. This process introduces a new way of thinking about form: internal, layered, and precise.
Day 3: Butterfly Murrini
We close with a striking contrast: the butterfly. This project balances simplicity and complexity, guiding students through the creation of a bold black butterfly with white spot detailing. It’s a powerful study in control, symmetry, and visual impact—bringing together the skills developed throughout the workshop.
Throughout the weekend, students will gain a deeper understanding of heat control, color application, and construction techniques that extend well beyond these projects.
This is a rare opportunity to learn directly from a globally recognized artist and expand your glass vocabulary in a focused, supportive environment.
